What’s that? You like to see the people that will take you over land and sea on intrepid adventures before you commit to joining? No problem, let us introduce ourselves with a warm handshake and nod of the head (but none of that continental kissing business, no matter how much we like cannelloni!).

Nice to meet you! I’m Mike, but please call me Sugs. I’m the official leader at Centurion ESU, but like the majestic King Richard I, I spend little of my time in the land of my reign as I now live in Oxford (coincidently, the place of Richard’s birth!). Fear not; however, as I’ll be sure to make your acquaintance on the many camps and hikes we go on; and please, feel free to contact me with any questions or enquiries that you may have.

Now off you pop and meet the rest of the team…

I like tea, cheese and monkeys - my favourite is the orang-utan, which is controversial as they're orange (and not monkeys) and orange is a colour I'm not fond of…in fact it should really be banned or declassified to not being a colour anymore.

My number one goal in life is to meet an Eskimo and if I could be any animal I'd be a manatee or a wolf. I wouldn't be a monkey 'cause then I'd have to have a different favourite animal.

My favourite colour is red (though in reality it's actually blue). I don't believe in ghosts but I do believe in monsters. I believe clowns are inherently evil and there should be a law against the production and wearing of sandals. If I I could have any superpower I wouldn't mince about with flying or x-ray vision, I'd bagsie omnipitancy!

Nice to meet you, Pinto.

Hi I'm Alan, Scout Leader with 1st South Hornchurch and Assistant Explorer Scout Leader with the best unit in the world, or at least Europe, where we have made some great links. I have been involved with scouts all my life thanks to active parents and now it is my turn to pass on some of the opportunities that scouting has given me.

During my time I have done more nights away and hikes than I can remember and have recently gained my Queen's Scout Award. I've also helped out at the State Opening of Parliament and the Queen's Garden Party. Camping is close to my heart and if there is a theme involved then so much the better!

Bye for now...

The name’s Leader, Glenn Hadley Assistant Explorer Scout, Leader, but you can call me Sidekick. Often accused of only being of beaver age myself, I’m the youngest leader in the unit. Although this means that the bigger boys and girls steal my tuck shop money, it also means that I’m the most fluent in gateaux speak, sorry, ghetto speak, you check me my homees? I’ve been with the unit for 7years now – 3 as an explorer, and 4 as a helper / leader. I would leave, but I don’t know my way home yet.

I love nothing more than a good camp, be it just down the road or in the far flung lands of Serbia, Luxembourg or even Kent. Here at Centurion ESU, we’re camping it up pretty much all year round – perfect! But alas, one can’t go camping without first generating the funds to do so, and so fundraising is another favourite pastime.

Must dash, Mike needs his boots cleaning…

He's been described as "The New Mike...except there on a Monday night", but, if only for the sake of Sugs' paranoia, we'll call him Mick.

Details about Mick's background are a little sketchy but it's believed he was born to a family of wild boar in deepest, darkest North Africa some twenty odd years ago. Here, he was schooled in the art of eating almost anything and burrowing for warmth - two skills that come in handy at Centurion. As he developed from piglet to man (as 0.02% of the wild boar population are prone to do), he was taken in by the British Gas brigade. Now fully trained in sharp intakes of breath and shakes of the head in the general direction of a boiler issue, he's joined the ranks of Centurion and provided some much needed boulstering to the weekly running of the unit.

Some were devout, dedicated members of the unit who could always be depended on. Others dabbled their toes in the murky waters of Explorer Scouting before running away as fast as their little legs could carry them. Whatever the circumstances, once a Centurion, always a Centurion - a warm smile and an even warmer cup of tea always awaits these unit alumni...
